WRECK OF THE SS RICHARD MONTGOMERY

As a result of incorrect orders, this vessel became stranded on a shallow sandbank and broke its back. Although part of the cargo of explosives was removed in 1944, there still remains over three thousand tons on board the wreck, situated just outside the port of Sheerness.
