The Wimpey, as the Wellington was known, was a bomber designed by the legendary Barnes Wallace before the war. In the early years of World War Two it was the mainstay of Bomber command – taking the Blitz back to Germany. It was still in service after the war, having served all over the world. The majority of RAF airmen will have flown in the Wimpey at some time, making this an important work the these men and their relatives seeking their family history. Unique among books about the Wellington, this volume seeks to show the squadrons that operated it rather than the 'nuts and bolts' view usually given. Following in the footsteps of the previous titles in the In Focus series, this visual history of the Wellington makes spectacular use of over 350 high quality wartime images, many previously unpublished, to illustrate each group in turn. Four pages of colour side views provide colour reference to the different schemes worn by Wellingtons across the world.
