A potted history of a World War II proposal submitted to the Admiralty by Maunsell in 1939 for a bottle-shaped reinforced concrete observation post that could be positioned fifteen kilometres out to sea around the British shoreline. It was proposed to use these 160 ton vessels in large numbers to report enemy aircraft and shipping movements. Manned by five men, these vessels could submerge for up to five hours to evade enemy attacks. Contains the original proposal and drawings.
