Luftwaffe sea-strike and maritime units, 1939-1945. This is Volume 1 of a two-part study of the maritime and anti-shipping operations conducted by the Luftwaffe over the English Channel, North Sea, the Far North and Baltic, the Eastern Front and the Mediterranean. The Luftwaffe committed a wide variety of aircraft to operations which could range from coastal reconnaissance to U-boat liaison. The aircraft featured in the book include types as different as short-range float planes and large bombers. These include the Arado Ar196A, Dornier Do24, Blohm und Voss Bv138, Heinkel He115, Junker Ju88 and the four-engined Fw200 Condors, He177 and Do217, and many others. The book also examines the weaponry used by German bomber units operating in a maritime role such as the Rheinstahl PC 1400X, "Fritz X" radio-guided bomb and the Henschel Hs293 rocket-driven remotely-controlled "stand-off" missile as used against destroyers in the Mediterranean.
