Ju87 dive-bomber units, with Volume 2 covering the period 1942-1945. During the first phase of the war, the Ju87 Stuka had been an essential element in the Luftwaffe's armoury in attack. However, from mid-1943 as the war ground on, so the Stukageschwader began incurring heavy losses. Wherever possible and often against overwhelming enemy resources, the Stukas supported the retreating German armies by conducting not just precision dive-bombing missions, but also low-level ground-attack operations against enemy transport targets, gun positions and ships. This concluding volume examines the role of the Stuka during these years of retreat. Aspects of the Stuka's role which the book recounts includes the attacks against the Malta convoys, the retreat in North Africa, the war in the Arctic, the Russian campaign including the battle for Stalingrad, the final phases of the campaign in North Africa and the collapse of the Eastern Front. In addition, Ju87 training units are discussed as is the role of the aircraft in the final phases of the war.
