JUTLAND TO JUNKYARD

21st June 1919 saw one of the most extraordinary events of the 20th Century, an event forever printed on the memory of those who witnessed it. The German High Seas Fleet, one of the most powerful in history, began in unison to sink before the astonished gaze of a few spectators in Scapa Flow. By late morning, ten battleships, six battlecruisers and a host of smaller ships lay on the seabed. But this was not the end of the story. From 1924 on, using techniques at the frontiers of science, the great battle fleet was, ship-by-ship, raised and scrapped. "Jutland to Junkyard" is the story of this, the greatest salvage operation of all time.
