A proposal submitted to the Admiralty by Mr G A Maunsell in 1943 for a submersible reinforced concrete and steel gun platform for use in the Normandy landings. It led to the construction of one example. The hull was built in the Surrey Docks and the unit finished off at the Red Lion Wharf site at Gravesend. It was tested in the Thames Estuary and found to work satisfactorily. Only the inter-rivalry between the Armed Services caused the main production to be stifled. The project was only declassified by the Ministry of Defence in 1994. Contains diagrams and many photographs.
