The memoirs of Major-General George Kitching. Kitching's exceptional military career encompassed both the British and Canadian Armies and spanned thirty-five years. During his career he served in every rank from subaltern to major-general and was an eye-witness to some of the most significant events of the 20th Century. During the fighting in Sicily he was the senior staff officer of the 1st Canadian Division. After further service on the Italian mainland as a brigade commander, he commanded the 4th Canadian Armoured Division in the Battle of Normandy. And in the final stages of the war he was Chief-of-Staff of the 1st Canadian Corps in Italy and The Netherlands.
