The German
Wehrmacht was the name given to the unified armed forces of Germany during the Second World War
from 1939 to 1945. The Wehrmacht consisted of the Heer (Army), the Kriegsmarine
(Navy) and the Luftwaffe (Air Force). Forming part of a three part series, this
DVD, entitled Armoured Fighting Vehicles and Tank Defence, documents the
main armoured fighting vehicles used throughout the campaign. These units were
the backbone of the army units and were at the centre of all ground combat
missions. Medium and Heavy German battle tanks were deployed in the main battle
lines and fought against an opponent who was by far numerically superior.
However, what the Germans lacked in quantity, they more than made up for in
quality, with tanks such as the Tiger proving deadly to the less well equipped
Allied equivalents.
The German Infantry also played a crucial role in ground operations
and were welcome brothers in arms. Whilst the Infantry played out the majority
of the smaller skirmishes, the armoured vehicles provided tremendous support and
relief with their immense firepower and combat strength.
Using a selection of rare and unseen archive footage, this DVD
explores numerous areas of the German Wehrmacht, from the construction of the
Armoured Forces and large scale manoeuvres to the Invasion of Poland to the
Western Campaign.
