The naval documents stamped ’TOP SECRET’ in bright red were addressed to my late father and as I pieced together the information, I realised he’d been involved in covert naval operations during World War II. This was a subject he’d never discussed, however the newspaper cuttings were at least dated, and reported the navy using ’Chariots’, I had to find out more". Robert WHobson Chairman, The Underwater Heritage Trust CHARIOTS OF WAR is the definitive study of the ’Human Torpedos’of WW.II. Until this work by Hobson was published, there was no book specifically relating to this form of underwater warfare, or to the ’Charioteers’ (the nick-name given to the divers who rode the so-called ’Chariot’ or ’Human Torpedo). In piecing together otherwise lost and fragmented pieces of history, Hobson not only captures the spirit of the day, but also pays homage to the long forgotten ’Charioteers’.
