The Ju188 was one of a series of multi-engined warplanes built by Junkers
Flugzeug und Motorwerken. The Junkers Ju188 was a five-seater, twin-engined
bomber which first flew in September 1941. It was designed to be an improved
version of the Ju88 of which many thousands were already in service. The Ju188
was an outstanding machine, though production difficulties as the war progressed
meant that less than 1,100 were delivered to the Luftwaffe. In addition the
Ju188 bomber, several other variants were produced. The Ju188E was a good
torpedo bomber and the D2 variant was a reconnaissance aircraft which could fly
at up to 36,000 feet. A night fighter variant of the Ju188 was also tried but
was found not to be as effective in that role as the Ju88. With 32 black and
white photographs, twelve pages of colour, and 39 drawings.
