The first "airliner" Aerofax. The DC-10 suffered an unfortunate introduction to service but has gone on to be well regarded by both passengers and airlines alike. Several national airlines have found it to be their "bread and butter" earner, reliably plying the airways of the world. From 1970 to 1988 McDonnell Douglas built 446 DC-10s of all models and they are at work around the clock carrying passengers and freight. A central part of the book gives details of each operator of the DC-10, including illustrations of all major colour schemes. The DC-10's versatility has also attracted the military, the US Air Force ordering sixty of the KC-10A Extender tanker/transport version. With its ability to refuel a wide range of aircraft types and to carry personnel and supplies, the Extender has proved itself to be a very capable addition to the US Air Force's inventory. The book's illustrations are almost all colour, to show to best advantage the wide range of schemes and operators that have used the DC-10.
