The hobby of model making in its present form might appear to be a
somewhat recent story. However, since the beginning of recorded history, people
have felt the need to represent, for various reasons, real life objects in
smaller scales. Indeed, for thousands of years people have made figurines or
built ship models. However, it is only over the last sixty years that
modelmaking has undergone a fundamental, and profound change. Since the two
world wars, modelers have leaned toward building aircraft and armour over all
other areas of modeling. The replicating of aircraft especially offers a great
variety of subjects, either military or civilian, from WWI, WWII, right up to
the modern era, in a number of standard scales, from 1/144 to 1/24. The majority
of the mainstream modelmaking companies offer an incredibly wide variety of
every type and category of aircraft so that the modeller is sure to find
whatever he, or she wants. Regardless of scale, the aircraft models presented in
this volume are true works of art of exceptional intricacy that have demanded a
great deal of effort, artistic skill and, above all, time to complete. However,
modelmaking is a creative hobby and the builders of such excellent models never
regret the time and effort they have devoted, as the end result is totally
stunning and eye-catching. In this volume, which has been many months in
preparation, we have attempted to gather representative samples as well as
different types of scale aircraft. Here, you will find articles about the
building, painting, detailing and weathering of model aircraft by such famous
Greek modelers as Megas Tsonos and Nick Kavvathas, both of whom are
internationally recognized master aircraft modelers with a long list of
international top awards. In addition, there are historical texts, photos,
camouflage schemes, profiles and illustrations by Richard Caruana. Much effort
has gone into making this volume as interesting as possible for modelers of all
ages, ability or, indeed, status. Advanced Aircraft Modelling is aimed at all
levels of modeler; in this volume, you will also find many useful tips for such
things as colour mixing, paintbrush and airbrush techniques, and much, much more
that we all hope you?ll take your time to enjoy! Depending on the success of
this first volume and its acceptance by the modelmaking world, it would be our
greatest pleasure to try even harder on a future second volume. If so, we assure
you it would feature yet more of the endless stream of wonderful material by
brilliant model builders. Well, they do say, "the proof of the pudding is in the
eating". So, we sincerely hope, via the following pages, to maintain your
modeling pleasure at the highest possible level, and you find this new book
totally absorbing, helpful and, above all, inspiring! Reviews: The models are
all well built and weathered, very much in the 'Spanish Style' and all the
images are clear and well lit. Verdict: This is a useful title, with lots of
high quality work and the quality of the production is first class. It is
certainly one to recommend - Model Military International, October
